February Newsletter

Hello everyone,

We are wrapping up our month long discussion of community helpers this week. We have discussed medical professionals, dentists, veterinarians, police officers, fire fighters, librarians, and grocers. We had visits with a Teacher/Speech Language Pathologist, Officer Bressler, Nurse Josie, and two Librarians. Each told us why they wanted to be a community helper and what the best part of their job was. Our culminating activity today and tomorrow will be asking the children what they want to be when they grow up and why. We have already heard that some want to be a nurse like their mom or a firefighter to help people. I can’t wait to see what they come up with. I will post a picture of the bulletin board on the blog for you to check out.

In February, we will be investigating balls. We will discuss force and motion, gravity, velocity, circumference, diameter, size, and many other concepts. We will work with pulley systems, ramps, catapults, a pendulum, tubes, and ramps. There will be an investigation into how/which balls bounce in the science area.  It should be a very busy and engaging study.

Parent-teacher conferences are March 2nd. I will send a pre-conference form next week for you to fill out if you have anything specific to discuss with me. Information will be going home soon on how to sign up for a conference. I look forward to meeting with you and sharing how your child is doing in our class.

I will be out today and tomorrow attending a conference. Ms. Joy will be my guest teacher. She is wonderful and subs in our program often. Ms. Linda will be at school. I told the kids before they left on Tuesday that I would be out. I know they will do great. I will be back Monday. I can be reached by email if you need me for anything.

Fire Station

As part of our community helpers theme, the children will get to be fire fighters in the dramatic play area. Thank you to those who donated paper rolls for the fire hoses and plastic bottles for the air packs.
