Chicken Facts

We wrapped up our farm theme with a week of conversation on chickens. Ms. Darcie's chicks came to visit for the day on Thursday. On Friday, a family friend Zoomed with us to talk about being a backyard chicken farmer. The facts written in black on the poster to the left are what the children knew on Monday. The green information was added on Friday. The children learned a lot!

Pigs!

The children shared what they knew about pigs on Monday before we learned any new information. That information is written in black and pink. On Friday, I asked them what new information they had learned. That is written in green. Wow!! They were paying attention this week!!

Calling All Hair Stylists

The children voted on changing the dramatic play area into a hair salon. They have been washing, blowing out, curling, and brushing the doll's hair. They can practice creating different hair styles on the mop head models and express how they are feeling on the faces in the mirrors. They have been having a blast!

We Have Chrysalides!!

The caterpillars climbed to the top of their cup and formed their chrysalides over the weekend! We should have butterflies in 7-10 days. It will seems like nothing is happening during the next 7-10 days, however, this is really a time of rapid change. The body parts of the caterpillar are metamorphosing into the parts of the butterfly. Hopefully we will be able to witness one of the butterflies emerge from the chrysalis next week

We Have Caterpillars!!

At the science table, the children are learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We have several caterpillars who have been very busy eating. They are getting ready to go into the "J" position. We will watch as they go onto their chrysalis and metamorphosis into butterflies. I will update with pictures as the process evolves.

Science Experiment

We put white carnations into blue water. The children made a hypothesis for what would happen. Some childre thought the carnations would grow. Other children thought the carnations would stay white while others thought they would turn blue. Here is what happened on day 1, day 2, and day 4.

April Newsletter and Song Lyrics

 Hello everyone!

We have started our study of recycling, reducing, and reusing.I started the conversation by talking about how everything we do either makes the Earth a happier or sadder place to live and how important it is to do all we can to protect the Earth. This week we are talking about reusing materials. Examples in our classroom of reused materials are sawdust in the sensory table, cardboard boxes, tree rings and rocks in the block area, used food boxes in the “grocery store”, and an assortment of bottle caps to sort by color, size, or type.  We will be making robots out of boxes and tubes Thursday and Friday this week. Next week, I will change the dramatic play area into a recycling center. They will sort recycling materials into glass, metal, plastic or paper.  Our unit will culminate with an Earth Day activity on Friday 4/16. Rhonda from CSWD will be a guest speaker to discuss the correct way to recycle. I will be sending a link for you to join this activity if you would like to.

We are enrolling children for next school year. If you know of anyone whose child is 3 or 4 years old and looking for a preschool experience, please have them contact me at 802-264-5894 or at nancy.smith@colchestersd.org . The deadline for entering the lottery is Friday, April 2, 2021.

Recycling Theme Song Lyrics

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (Sung to The More We Get Together)

Reduce, reuse, recycle

Recycle, recycle

Reduce, reuse, recycle

It’s easy to do

Cause your trash

And my trash

Make up way

Too much trash

Reduce, reuse, recycle

It’s easy to do.

We Recycle (Sung to Frere Jacques)

We recycle!

We recycle!

Yes, we do!

Yes, we do!

Caring for our planet,

Caring for our planet.

Is easy to do!

Is easy to do!

Earth Day Song (sung to Twinkle, Twinkle)

Earth day, Earth day,

Comes once a year.

But we should make our

Message clear.

Love and clean our Earth

Each day.

Make that plan a plan to stay.

Earth day, Earth day,

Comes once a year.

Love and care for our

Earth so dear.
