Newsletter May 15, 2018

Hi,

The children have been having a blast studying insects. They have learned that insects have three body parts, six legs, two eyes, and two antennae. Some insects have wings but not all insects. Bugs with more/less legs, eyes, or body parts do not belong to the insect family. The kids made a honey comb last week. They will fly bees in and out of the hive to a flower garden to collect pollen. They voted on putting a campsite in the dramatic play area. Look for pictures to follow in the next two weeks. This week our focus will be caterpillars and butterflies. We have some caterpillars in our room that we will watch change into butterflies. We will release them once they have emerged.

Last week I sent out information on Field Day, Friday May 25th. The Pre-K has been invited to attend for 1.5 hours. I am unsure that we will be participating for the entire time. I am working with my colleagues on a schedule. I will post it ASAP. Parents are welcome to volunteer. If you are interested, make sure you have completed the background check for volunteers with the school district.

The last day for Pre-K is Friday, June 15th. We will be having an end of the year celebration on that day from 2:15-2:45. We will have an extra recess (weather permitting), have stations set up outside and a popsicle snack to end our year. It seems impossible to me that we are already planning our end of the year celebrations. The year has flown by. It has been a true gift to spend my afternoons with your children. Thank you for sharing them with me

Dates to remember:

May 16th- Pam from Burnham Library visit 1:30
May 25- Field Day
May 29- School Closed for Memorial Day
