October Newsletter

Hi Families,

We are studying trees for the month of October. We spent the first two weeks
talking about the parts of a tree and the life cycle of a tree. Vocabulary words
we use are seeds, sprout, roots, trunk, bark, branches, leaves, chlorophyll,
deciduous and coniferous. The children have enjoyed studying the different
tree items in our science area. We have painted using pine cones, leaves, and
acorns, drawn and painted a still life of the tree in our room, and done a large bark
rubbing to create the trunk of a tree for our bulletin board. The next two weeks we
will be talking about who lives in trees and how a tree contributes to the well being
of animals by providing food, shelter, and camouflage. One of the books we will be
reading is The Busy Tree by Jennifer Ward. Our second  house area will be converted
into a hollow tree with woodland animals and birds. The children will be encouraged
to act out the story using the props. The last week of October, we will read Chicka,
Chicka, Boom, Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault. We will do many
activities with letter identification, letter sounds, and the children’s names.

Your children are doing an amazing job at preschool! They have quickly learned the
routines and expectations of our day, are practicing the “flip trick” to independently put
on their jacket, made new friends, and many can pack their backpacks with minimal help.
Thank you for sharing them with us each afternoon. Ms. Linda and I thoroughly enjoy our
time with them.
